THE MBT TRAINING PROCESS

The training program for Mentalization-Based Treatment (MBT) is designed to educate mental health clinicians and other professionals in an understanding of mentalizing and to equip them with the skills needed to implement MBT. The training pathway includes the Introduction to MBT, the MBT Basic Training, ongoing supervision, and the MBT Practitioner Training, which together support clinicians in developing competence in the model. The Mentalizing Initiative is an Anna Freud Centre licensed and accredited training site.

This is the first step, and is suitable for mental health professionals who are interested in learning more about mentalizing and mentalization-based treatments. The course is also a prerequisite for attending the MBT basic training course.

This in-person MBT Basic Training is a 3-day course offering up to 18 continuing education hours, taught by MBT co-creator Anthony Bateman and other MI faculty, provides the foundational knowledge and clinical skills needed to begin practicing Mentalization-Based Treatment.

Following attendance at the three-day basic course, clinicians can participate in supervision to embed their newly acquired mentalizing skills whilst using them in everyday work. Supervision approved through the Anna Freud Centre is available through the Mentalizing Initiative, MBT-USA, and the Anna Freud Centre.

This two-day training, offering up to 14 continuing education hours, taught by Dr. Anthony Bateman, aims to update your knowledge of current developments in MBT, increase confidence in delivering mentalizing interventions, and hone clinical skills to deliver MBT with adherence and high quality.
