This advanced, two-day program is designed for clinicians who have completed an MBT Basic training and are actively applying mentalizing in their work. It aims to update your knowledge of current developments in MBT, strengthen clinical skills, and increase confidence in delivering mentalizing interventions across a wide range of clinical presentations.
Combining didactic teaching with case-based learning, the course offers a supportive, practice-focused environment to deepen your understanding of the MBT framework, refine clinical formulation, and enhance the quality and adherence of your work.

Professor Bateman is a Consultant Psychiatrist and Psychotherapist and MBT co-ordinator, Anna Freud National Centre for Children and Families; Visiting Professor University College, London; Honorary Professor in Psychotherapy University of Copenhagen.
ABOUT THE PRESENTER
Anthony Bateman, MA, FRCPsych

He developed mentalization based treatment with Peter Fonagy for borderline personality disorder and studied its effectiveness in research trials. Adapted versions are now being used in multi-centre trials for antisocial personality disorder, eating disorders, and drug addiction. He was an expert member of National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) development group for treatment guidelines for Borderline Personality Disorder in UK and is currently Chair of the National Guideline Development Group for Eating Disorders. His NHS clinical services are recognised by the Department of Health as a national demonstration site for the treatment of personality disorder. He was President of the European Society for the Study of Personality Disorders (ESSPD) from 2012-2015.
Professor Bateman received a senior scientist award from British and Irish group for the Study of Personality Disorder in 2012 and in 2015 the annual award for "Achievement in the Field of Severe Personality Disorders" from the BPDRC in the USA.
He has authored 14 books including Psychotherapy for Borderline Personality Disorder: mentalization based treatment and, most recently, Mentalization Based Treatment for Personality Disorder: a practical guide (2016) (with Peter Fonagy), numerous book chapters, and over 120 peer reviewed research articles on personality disorder and the use of psychotherapy in psychiatric practice.

The Mentalizing Initiative is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. The Mentalizing Initiative maintains responsibility for this program and its content.

Are CE hours available?
Yes! Up to 14 CE hours are available. Partial credit cannot be given.
Can I sign up for just one date of the course?
Unfortunately, we are unable to offer partial registration.
What is the prerequisite course and how do I find out about it?
Any MBT Basic Training (e.g., MBT, MBT-A, and/or NPD) by an approved MBT Global Network training center. For more information, click here.
Is my registration refundable?
The Mentalizing Initiative is a registered non-profit organization and we are unable to offer refunds past the registration deadline. If you are unable to attend, you may request to have someone attend in your place.
What if I took the MBT Intro through another program?
As long as the training center was an approved MBT Global Network training center, you have met the requirement.
Will there be a hybrid option for this course?
Not for this event, MBT focuses on the relational process, and we have found that it is best learned in person.
